Mother’s Day is a special day to honor your mother and everything she has done for you. When your motherless on Mother’s Day, your heart feels empty and out of place. It’s hard enough not having your Mom on Mother’s Day. But it’s way worse when you’re a Mother and motherless on Mother’s Day.
You want to celebrate and be happy, but yet you feel selfish because you don’t have your own mother alive. You don’t want to celebrate without her. The pain grows inside of you because you’re trapped between wanting to enjoy your day as a mother and wanting your own Mom around to celebrate with you. It’s a battle within yourself.
Look, it’s okay. You’re allowed to celebrate your own motherhood. Your Mom would want you to celebrate because motherhood is incredible and something to celebrate. Also, it’s not fair to your kid or kids if you’re feeling depressed when your hubby and kid(s) are trying to make the day special. They appreciate you and want to show you that. So try to smile and let yourself enjoy yourself.
You should try finding something to honor your mother even though she’s in heaven. Do something you know she would want to do on Mother’s Day. Whatever it may be like going shopping or out to dinner. She may be in Heaven, but you can celebrate her life rather than feel sorrow and loss.
You may feel anxious leaving the house and seeing other grandmas with their daughters and grandkids, but just take a step back and look at your family. You’re here to celebrate your motherhood. Don’t worry about what others around you have compared to you.
It’s okay to be sad.
You must remind yourself Mother’s Day isn’t just about being motherless now because you’re a mom. You have something to celebrate… yourself. That’s worth much more than you give yourself credit for, especially since you’re surviving without your mom’s guidance. Right there is something to celebrate since mothers are what daughters leans on when things go downhill. Yeah, you may have a mother in law or mother like figures but that’s not the same as your own mother. It’s you against the motherhood.
You know what? You’re rocking it. So go out and celebrate your day. You deserve it.
Celebrate your journey as a Mom. Embrace all the accomplishments you have overcome as a mother. Make the day about yourself.
Yes, you may be motherless but it doesn’t define you. You’re so much more because of you’re a mother yourself.
